Lift Passes: approx €150 adults 6 days, €135 child up to 11, ages 12-25 €135.
Ski lessons: are approx €20 for 2 hour group session (5-10 pers.) or €36 euro per hour private lesson, and
Ski hire: is approx €45 for 6 days for children, €62 for 6 days beginner, €85 intermediate, €105 advanced.
Snowboards, helmets and sledges can also be hired.
All prices for extras are approximate and based on 2008 prices.
Flights: Flights are available from a number of UK airports to Pau, Toulouse, Lourdes or Biarritz e.g. Stansted to Pau. Flight supplements from some airports may apply depending on flight prices at the time of booking. Book early to avoid supplements.
**Please note the Local Payment is part of the Holiday Cost and payable to the Mango co-ordinator on arrival in resort. We have to make some payments in cash in resort and collecting this part of the holiday cost in this way enables us to keep our prices down.
Our ski trips to Romania have proved to be very popular and in response to your many requests, we have found a second destination for skiing. The Alpine ski resort of Barèges (1250m) in the impressive Tourmalet ski area is the largest ski resort in the French Pyrenees. 
There are around 100 kilometres of well-kept pistes set in beautiful unspoiled scenery, and because it is less well-known than the Alps, skiing is cheaper and less crowded. Barèges is a traditional French mountain ski village with friendly and welcoming residents and a lively but not rowdy atmosphere. The village is set in a picturesque valley, bounded by meadows, wooded slopes and snow-capped mountains.
Skiing in the French Pyrenees
Skiing in the French Pyrenees is relatively unknown in the UK, remaining a well kept secret by the French. There are no large Tour Operators here. The Pyrenees are wonderful for skiing with more snow annually than the Alps, because of their proximity to the Atlantic coast. Weather conditions are ideal with high pressure systems bringing clear blue skies, interspersed with heavy snowstorms to revive the slopes. As a result, the Tourmalet resort has a long season from the beginning of December through to the end of March. Recent large investments in snow-making equipment should guarantee snow. Pyrenean skiing, especially in the Tourmalet area, is excellent for beginners and intermediate skiers as well as more advanced skiers. There are gentle nursery slopes and beautiful, wide runs giving access to every area of the resort. The twin resorts of Barèges and the newer, La Mongie have 100km of runs, 42 ski lifts and 69 pistes. Beginner to intermediate skiers have 24 green and 20 blue runs, making it possible to visit all of the five inter-connected ski areas without straying onto anything too challenging. For advanced skiers there are 20 red runs, and 5 blacks, as well as huge off-piste potential. The local ski school is particularly good with children and adults alike.
Our Accommodation
We stay half board in a small comfortable 2 star hotel right in the centre of Barèges village. All rooms are en suite. For much of the ski season you can ski back to the village via a blue-run through deciduous woodland or a green run following the river. Barèges is just a ten minute ride on the free ski bus to the slopes. The ski bus stops regularly just metres from the hotel. There are several ski and sports shops, a bakery, a cash point, post office and small super-market all close-by. Barèges has plenty of bars, cafés and restaurants offering good local cuisine. The village is lively, but is not a rowdy ski resort, making it ideal for a Mango group. Many people ski here to get away from the crowds in the Alps and to experience the relative peace of this traditional mountain village.
Relax and unwind at the Thermal Baths in Barèges
Barèges was first established as a spa resort (the thermal waters were first discovered in the 15th century), and the recently-refurbished thermal baths are just a short walk away from the hotel, offering a range of options for invigorating, relaxing or pampering yourself.
Mango Holiday Fun
The trip will be accompanied by a Mango co-ordinator, who will be able to help you organise your ski hire, ski pass and book ski lessons. We will head off on the ski bus together and split into groups for skiing, ski lessons and arrange to meet up for lunch and later before dinner. Over dinner there will be a chance for us to exchange our days' experiences on the slopes.
