North Devon Summer Holiday
A seaside holiday in Woolacombe on the North Devon Coast
This is a seaside holiday staying in the fabulous resort of Woolacombe, on the North Devon coast. The beach at Woolacombe is an award-winning sandy beach stretching for three miles and is a delight for children of all ages with wind–surfing and body boarding for the more adventurous. The North Devon coastal resorts are quieter than their counterparts on the South Devon coast and Woolacombe itself is a delightful small resort.
Woolacombe is well-situated to explore the many attractions North Devon has to offer. Woolacombe’s fantastic stretch of beach is where we build sand castles, take a dip in the sea, play beach games or try body boarding or take a surfing lesson. Woolacombe is on the South West coastal path where we can enjoy short walks. We can organise horse-riding, quad-biking and a visit to Cascades adventure pool with a giant 230ft flume, fun rapids ride, water spout, bubble lounger, jacuzzi, safe pools and waterfalls for the children. At nearby Bideford is the Big Sheep a working farm turned wacky tourist attraction, combining traditional rural crafts, such as cheese making and shearing, with hilarious novelties such as sheep racing and duck trialling and other amusing and witty events. Watermouth Castle provides a host of fun. As well as the castle itself, there is the Dungeon labyrinth, with something different round each corner. Merrygoland provides rides and games and Gnome land is a village full of little people. The Wildlife and Dinosaur Park is a short distance away at Coombe Martin. You can do as much or as little as you want in this beautiful area of England packed with activities to enjoy whatever the weather.
We will be staying half board at the Royal Hotel in Woolacombe. The Royal Hotel overlooks the Devon countryside and the sea and boasts impressive views from the dining room and is just a five minute walk down to the beach. Our accommodation is a budget hotel of a basic standard but is ideal for families and is very child-friendly. There is some evening entertainment, some of which is suitable for children but there is an alternative lounge, and a ballroom which we can usually take over for our group and organise some games or play table tennis or pool.
All bedrooms are en-suite and have TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast and evening meals are buffet style with lots of choice. Vegetarians are also well-catered for. Leisure facilities include a large heated indoor swimming pool, children’s play area and games room. The hotel has entertainment on most evenings. We can also organise our own entertainment.
Mango Holiday Fun
Your Mango co-ordinator will be on site to ensure that your holiday is as enjoyable as possible and to coordinate the activity programme and help with any trips and visits you want to make. The exact programme of visits will be organised by the Mango coordinator based on the weather conditions, the ages of the children and the interests of those on the holiday. There are lots of attractions and places to visit in and around Woolacombe. You can do as little or as much as you choose and when it’s fine we will spend lots of time on the beach.

We loved Woolacombe
Sophie loved Woolacombe as I did – we plan to go back there. Usually, we do body boarding in Penzance for a week before our main summer holiday. The only challenge for Sophie, was not having a girl of her own age to do stuff with on the holiday, but the people who came were lovely and easy to get on with.

The holiday was fantastic
The holiday was fantastic. The group of people were lovely and both adults and children got on incredibly well. The children were soon calling themselves “the gang” or “the crew” and all were included in the activities of the gang from age 2 to 11. The beach was wonderful and Woolacombe itself is pretty much unspoilt despite being such a popular seaside destination. There’s a lot to do in the area: even when the weather was not “beach weather” this didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves: indeed the water balloon fight at The Big Sheep in a downpour was probably all the more fun for the rain – at the end only the mango kids remained as everyone else ran for cover.
