Minimum age 7 years

Trip Overview:

This multi-activity family holiday to Croatia is great for those that love water and excitement – run the rapids whilst white water rafting along the Zrmanja River, explore caves and gorges as we hike through Paklenica.  Combine all this with cycling through villages and discovering Croatia’s rich history and you have the recipe for an unforgettable week!

Trip Highlights:

Cycling & Canoeing

A bike tour along country roads and through local villages is a great way to see the countryside at a pace that allows you to experience it much more closely than from a vehicle. Enjoy rafting on the Zrmanja River and exploring its beautiful turquoise pools. After a day spent paddling, the pools are perfect for a welcome swim.

Kayaking & Rafting

Rafting the Zrmanja river takes you through a high-sided gorge of impressive karst formations. The rafting itself is an exhilarating way to understand Croatia’s wilderness and an experience you will not forget!

Plitvice Lakes National Park

It’s one of the oldest national parks in south-eastern Europe and the largest in Croatia, a misty Eden of endless waterfalls and spectral blue lakes.

Day2 Paklenica National Park

After breakfast it’s time to set off on a hike through the Paklenica National Park. The National Park is one of the most visited climbing sites in Europe thanks to its incredible rock formations and stunning natural scenery. Your hike will take you to the edge of the Velika Paklenica Canyon, revealing the most magnificent views of the area. You’ll pass by Sklopina, a 17th century village where houses were built right into the cracks in the rock. The return path leads you to the very bottom of the Velika Paklenica Canyon and along the creek where you can freshen up. Return to the comfort of your accommodation for a well earned rest. Note: The route chosen will depend on seasonality, weather conditions and the ability of the group.

Apartmani Dinko – Breakfast Included

Day3 Krka National Park

Today delivers all things wet and wild as you hit the water for an exciting canoe safari or white water rafting adventure on the Zrmanja River, which travels 69 kilometres as it winds along its route from the southern part of Mount Pljesevica towards the sea. Make your way along perfectly clear and green waters, through karst scenery of narrow valleys and step sided canyons, passing magnificent waterfalls. The first part of the trip is easy, allowing you to get the feel for your craft and enjoy the surroundings and then it will gradually get downhill with an increase in waterfall and rapids. Drifting serenely makes this a memorable day of activity.

Day4 Paklenica

After yesterday’s river adventure, it’s time to head back and explore the mountain paths at the Paklenica National Park. The grassy hills and rugged mountain trails of the park make for a great spot to get some mountain bike practice in. Cycle around the countryside and enjoy this break-taking part of Croatia. The route chosen will depend on the groups ability. All trails travel through the characteristic rocky landscape of Dalmatia, dominated by the view of the slopes of the serrated Vesebit mountain peaks, beech and black pine forest with the Adriatic Sea as a constant backdrop.

Apartment Dinko – Breakfast Included. Picnic lunch.

Day5 Free Day

After the last couple of days of frenetic activity, today is left free to rest and relax. Perhaps visit the beach or explore Zadar, the ex-capital of Dalmatia which has a thriving cafe culture and some cool historical spots for the kids.

Apartmani Dinko – Breakfast Included

Day6 Sea Kayaking

Today we head out on a sea kayak adventure in Paklenica Bay. Paddle out on the clear blue sea through the Velebit Channel and spend a day on the water, with the mountains serving as your backdrop while you tour the coastline. Glide along the blue satin water that’s often so clear that you can see the bottom. Feeling hot? There will be plenty of chances to stop and dive into the water on swimming breaks. Along the way you’ll stop for lunch. Your final destination is the nearby fishing village of Vinjerac across the bay, a picturesque place with neat rows of pastel coloured houses fronting the harbour. Perhaps try some of the daily catch for dinner in one of the local restaurants. You’ll return to Starigrad for the night.

Day7 Plitvice Lakes National Park

Today you’ll continue the water theme with a trip out to the stunning World Heritage-listed Plitvice Lakes National Park (approximately 1.5 hours). It’s one for the oldest national parks in south-eastern Europe and the largest in Croatia, a misty Eden of endless waterfalls and spectral blue lakes. The waters tumble from a high, tree-lined ridge down through the valley and skirt dense forests of beech, spruce and pine. The interplay of water, rock and plant-life creates a wondrous, dynamic landscape, changing the water colour from azure to bright green, deep blue to grey. A series of wooden walkways pass over the landscape, ensuring there’s little impact upon the park. A stroll around this park will leave you feeling very in tune with nature. Even amongst this pristine natural beauty, the Plitvice Lakes are shadowed by the regions history. The 1991 civil war erupted here after rebel Serbs took control of the park’s headquarters, holding the duration of the war and devastating the infrastructure, though thankfully leaving the natural landscape intact. Return to Starigrad and celebrate your final night with the group.

Like being away with a group of friends

Having researched the options for a holiday, which would be enjoyable for both my 9 year old son and me, I contacted Mango for further information. I was extremely impressed with the information, guidance and attentive service provided from that point onwards – Mango were very supportive indeed and this helped me to feel confident in pursuing this type of holiday.

The structure of the holiday was very straightforward and well planned. The transfers were provided and the Tour Guide welcomed us on arrival. The group holiday set up worked much better than I could have hoped, from both of our perspectives, in terms of what we got out of the holiday.

The activities were very well planned and varied, the Tour Guide also adjusted the activities if necessary depending on the ability of the children in the group. The other families on the trip were very friendly and interested in similar activities (e.g. active lifestyle, understanding new places and having interesting experiences) and the Tour Guide provided very interesting local knowledge as well as practical advice as required.

It was essentially like being away with a group of friends and I found it very pleasant indeed that we all ate meals together. I would not hesitate to recommend Mango and this holiday and have done so already to several friends.
