Bay of Naples
Minimum age 5yrs
During this Italian family adventure holiday you will enjoy two great Mediterranean cities, Naples and Sorrento. Let history come alive as you explore the ruins of Herculaneum and Pompeii, enjoy a relaxing day on Capri Island and discover the Blue Grotto by boat, climb the mighty dormant volcano of Vesuvius. On this trip you will discover that there is much more to Italy than ice cream and pizza, although your kids will of course love them both too!
Ancient Ruins of Herculaneum & Pompeii –
History comes alive as you visit the atmospheric Roman ruins of Herculaneum and build up a mental picture of life in those times. The city of Pompeii was buried and wonderfully preserved by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD79. You will walk Pompeii’s ancient streets, peering into the deserted houses and exploring the massive public baths that were visited daily by the inhabitants.
Capri Island & Vesuvius Volcano –
Capri is famous for its unparalleled setting and natural beauty. You will visit the fairytale Blue Grotto in a small boat and be amazed by the iridescent ‘blue light’. Vesuvius is one of the world’s most famous volcanoes and you will climb to its top, take in amazing views of the bay and gaze deep down into the crater.
This is a holiday we share with our partner, which is not a dedicated single parent holiday company and the holiday is likely to have a mixture of two-parent and one-parent families. Please enquire when booking about the group composition of those already booked on the trip.
An easy trip suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit and active. Other than the steep path up Vesuvius, most of the terrain is relatively gentle, if a bit uneven underfoot. Modes of transport include train, boat, taxi, minibus, local bus, on foot.

Day 1 – Fly to Naples / Arrive Sorrento
Welcome to Italy… Your group flight will Arrive into Naples airport and a transfer will be waiting to take you to your start hotel in Sorrento. The transfer will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. There are no activities planned until the group meeting this evening at 6pm. Home to artistic treasures, renowned sights, celebrated fashion and some of the tastiest food on the planet, Italy will surely impress. Hotel Carlton or similar – Swimming Pool
Day 2 – Herculaneum
This morning you`ll take a short train ride to Ercolano and visit the ancient site of Herculaneum. Often overlooked in favour of its more famous neighbour Pompeii, it too was covered by a river of hot volcanic mud from the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Excavations first started in the 18th century, and subsequently uncovered bronze and silver artefacts, marble statues and many mosaics as well as a superbly preserved network of streets and houses. A guided tour (approx 2 hours) will bring the site to life, revealing everyday life as it was almost 2000 years ago. Return to your hotel by train and the rest of your day is free to do as you please. Hotel Carlton or similar – Swimming Pool – Breakfast and Dinner included
Day 3 – Capri
This morning we transfer to the port and head across the glorious Bay of Naples to Capri. A hydrofoil will take you across to the island that was once home to the magnificent holiday palaces of the Roman emperors. Capri’s dramatic rocky coastline is pierced by natural grottoes, while in the interior, narrow roads wind through fragrant citrus groves, past villages of little white houses with flower filled gardens, and manicured towns that offer swanky hotels and chic cafes. After the exploration of the Marina and little town of Capri, we take a bus to Anacapri and enjoy the best views of the island and bay from the top of Monte Solaro, reachable by cable car. Around mid afternoon we take the ferry back to Sorrento where we have a free evening. Hotel Carlton – Swimming Pool – Breakfast included.
Day 4 – Pompeii / Vesuvius
You will be picked up by private transfer and head to Pompeii (approximately 40 minutes). Until 26 August, 79 AD, Pompeii was a thriving Roman trading centre, where ordinary people went about their everyday business. Then, disaster struck, Vesuvius, that had for so long loomed peacefully over the city, erupted without warning, engulfing the citizens, their houses, temples and treasures in lava and ashes. Unbelievably, it seems that only around 2,000 out of the 20,000 inhabitants perished. Nevertheless, despite brief consideration by the city elders, Pompeii was never rebuilt with any real enthusiasm, and largely disappeared from people`s minds until the 16th century, when the ruins were re-discovered. Most of the major excavations were conducted from the late 18th century onwards and today`s tour of the site with a local guide will amaze kids and adults. Hotel Carlton – Swimming Pool – Breakfast included
Day 5 – Minori
Today we pack our bags and transfer to our next destination by private transfer. A stunning drive along the Amalfi Coast is waiting for us! But before we will be stop at a local Agriturismo to taste their local products and know about their food business. Once in Minori free time to explore this small little village or enjoy some beach time. The beach here is typical of Italy, it is likely to be busy with chairs and umbrellas ( that you can hire ) and is a great spot to people watch. Hotel Caporal or similar- Breakfast included.
Day 6 – Minori
Today we head out on kayaks along the Amalfi coast, followed by an afternoon to unwind, relax and share tales of this mornings adventure. Hotel Caporal – Breakfast included.
Day 7 – Minori (Free Day)
Today has been deliberately left free so you can decide what to do explore the area further or, if you don`t want to stray too far afield, soak up the atmosphere of your surroundings. You may want to take an excursion along the scenic Amalfi coastline famed for the villages that cling to the sheer limestone cliffs which fall precipitously into the crystalline blue waters of the Mediterranean far below.Hotel Caporal – Breakfast included.

Lovely holiday in Italy
We had a lovely holiday in Italy, thank you. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel in Sorrento, it was clean and well run with a great sun terrace where we had a picnic one evening.
Ilaria, our tour guide, was organised and wonderful with the kids. A highlight was when she organised our own sailboat for the trip to Capri.
The food was excellent all week, although we felt that the restaurant where we had lunch in Pompeii was overpriced.
We had a great time and we all made new friends from our lovely group. My daughter enjoyed the holiday – particularly the pizza – and I feel that we made some wonderful new memories together in what is a beautiful part of the world.

The right balance of freedom
Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday. It didn’t bother me at all that it wasn’t just single parents on the trip – everyone was great and I have made some lasting friendships.
The trip was very well organised throughout and we felt safe and looked after at all times. We had the right balance of freedom to do our own thing versus group activities.
Marcus is not the most easily-pleased teenager, and he has enjoyed every minute.
Absolutely loved it, it was just what we needed!
